Designing when your not a designer

Posted in ten years old at 6:04 pm by mfnca

Programming was what attracted me to the web a little over ten years ago. I still look at things from a programmers perpective but now I am trying to also see the design aspects. Content may be king but it is the cover design that attracts the reader to explore the content. Dave Shea and Molly Holzschlag’s book “The Zen of CSS Design: Visual Enlightenment for the Web? helped me look at websites from the design perspective. I like Shaun Inman entry in Zen Garden called This is Cereal

learning from the best

The most talked about redesign this year is Jeffrey Zeldman’s website A List Apart It was designed by Jason Santa Maria. Not only did he do the layout but provide a new logo and branding system as well. Many of the changes and challenges are document by Jeffrey’s article. Jason also talks about the redesign on his website and Eric Meyer does the same as well. Although this is the number one site for learning about web design, development and standards probably the most influential website has to be Dave Shea’s a zen garden which sports 185 redesigns
